Self-build schemes scoop more awards!
Lewisham Council has announced the winners of its prestigious new "Quality Homes for Lewisham" award for residential developments completed in Lewisham in 1997.
This special new award is the first to be given by a local authority to recognise the contribution made by other people in improving the quality of homes in the area.
Quality Homes award patrons - comedian and writer Spike Milligan, and Freeman of the Borough, Sybil Phoenix, joined the eight finalists at a prize-giving reception.
The overall winner is the Fusions Jameen Self-Build scheme, designed by Architype. The thirteen houses at Nubia Way, Downham, were all built using the Segal timber frame method.
The judges praised the scheme for its excellent building design and construction, for contributing to the regeneration of the borough, for social benefit to the community and concern for the environment.
Meanwhile, in Nottingham, the Chase continues; the Neighborhood recently received a British Urban Regenaration Association ' Best Practice Award 1998'. The project gained recognition for involving the local community in an environmentally sustainable project, and was cited as " an excellent example of an urban regeneration scheme designed by and for local people in a deprived inner city area".
